Microsoft has launched it’s online office suite for Indian SMBs (Small & Medium Businesses) at a starting price of $2, i.e. Rs. 100/.
HCL Infosystems, Infosys and Wipro are among the companies to market and offer value-added services around the Microsoft Online Services (link).
MS”s online standard suite is a set of messaging and collaboration solutions hosted by Microsoft, and consists of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Office Live Meeting, and Office Communications Online.
This is a big boost to SaaS players in India and MS’s entry will surely heat up the space. As I have mentioned earlier, most of the incumbent players in enterprise space have failed in their online/SaaS venture – so MS’s entry is an interesting space to watch out for.
Also, service like these will hurt the enterprise business of few Internet companies like Rediff, which provides enterprise email service to small businesses and have chosen to remain in their archaic world.
